The Green Ribbon Commission (GRC) released Carbon Free Boston in 2019, setting forth an ambitious plan to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050. Because two-thirds of GHG emissions come from buildings, and because the majority of the 2050 building stock was built before 1950, the AEC professions have a large role to play in reaching this goal. Michael Jay Walsh is a Senior Research Scientist at the Institute for Sustainable Energy. In this role he is the technical lead for the Carbon Free Boston Initiative, which aims to inform the City of Boston’s decarbonization efforts as it works to achieve net zero/carbon-free status by 2050.
As a sustainability advocate and educator, she joined the USGBC MA, as Executive Director, in November 2017. Before becoming ED, She was developing climate action plans, master plans, design guidelines and green buildings as President of the Elbaum Group, LLC. For almost a decade she was Director of Sustainable Design at Sasaki.
Gabby balances the built and the digital realms, equally comfortable on the job site or visualizing a 3D model. With a passion for sustainability and resilient architecture, she investigates smart construction techniques for new and existing buildings. Gabby received her Bachelor of Science Degree at Northeastern University and her Masters of Architecture at the University of Miami.
Rebecca is a Sustainability Consultant and Associate at Arup in Boston and leads the Sustainability team. She is also currently a USGBC MA Board member. She has worked on a range of new and existing buildings, and energy and GHG emissions masterplanning. Rebecca's strength lies in her ability to approach projects strategically, holistically and communicate sustainable design to all audiences. She also recently worked on the certification of the Boston office WELL GOLD and Fitwel Three Star certifications.
**Amy Longsworth** joined the Boston Green Ribbon Commission as director in May 2015, after many years as a corporate sustainability strategy consultant, most recently with PricewaterhouseCoopers. In her role as director, she works with member organizations and other partners from across Boston’s business, philanthropic, and public sectors to help the City implement its Climate Action Plan.
