The NBA started its preseason games this week, and its regular season tips off on Oct. 22. You’ve probably already seen NBA players dazzle on the basketball court, but what about on red carpets, walking backstage before games or even on the catwalk? Plenty of these champion dunkers and dribblers are also dominating the fashion pages and the runway.

Author Mitchell S. Jackson has captured the NBA fashion evolution in his book “Fly: The Big Book of Basketball Fashion.”

“There was a lot of resistance at first,” Jackson said. “And we’re really talking about the youngsters that come in the league at that time, which is Dwayne Wade, LeBron James, Chris Bosh, Chris Paul. Those are the guys that started to embrace the new standards, or mandates, of the NBA Fashion.”

Under the Radar spoke with Jackson in March to learn how fashion icons have emerged from this unlikely setting.
