The latest episode of Open Studio with Jared Bowen looks at the art of Barkley L. Hendricks and the arc of Richard Thomas' acting career, whose latest role is as Atticus Finch in the theatrical adaptaion of “To Kill a Mockingbird.” We also pay tribute to actor Emilio Delgado, who passed away in March.
The Rose Art Museum’s exhibit “My Mechanical Sketchbook: Barkley L. Hendricks & Photography” focuses on the role photography played in the late artist’s work. The title comes from Hendricks, who described his camera as a “mechanical sketchbook,” allowing him to freely capture his surroundings — which included Black beauty and white supremacy. The exhibition is on view through July 24.
Actor Richard Thomas has lived the lives of countless characters on stage and screen. His latest role: Atticus Finch in Aaron Sorkin’s theatrical adaptation of “To Kill A Mockingbird” by Harper Lee. The two discuss the historical importance of “To Kill A Mockingbird” and the actor’s journey to portraying such an iconic character. “To Kill A Mockingbird” plays at the Citizens Bank Opera House April 5 through April 17.
Finally, Emilio Delgado raised generations of children for over 40 years in his role as Luis on “Sesame Street.” Bowen sat with Delgado in 2019 to discuss his acting career and the importance of humanizing Latinx individuals.
