The latest episode of Open Studio with Jared Bowen looks at Boston Mayor Michelle Wu's ongoing effort to support the arts. He also checks in with the crew behind the hip-hop theatrical sensation Freestyle Love Supreme, which just landed in Boston.

The arts have been integral to Wu's life since her early childhood. Music was an outlet that allowed her immigrant parents to connect with the community around them. Bowen sat down with Mayor Wu at her City Hall office, which she has outfitted with an upright piano. They discussed her vision to nurture the city's arts and culture sector.

Jared then zooms into a call with the members of Freestyle Love Supreme. The hip-hop musical theater group founded by Thomas Kail, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Anthony Veneziale will be perfoming at the Emerson Colonial Theatre through April 2. Each show has an element of improvisation, meaning no two performances are the same.

Finally, we take another look at Light, Space, Surface: Works from the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. The exhibit is on view through March 20.
