The latest episode of Open Studio with Jared Bowen is a history lesson. First, we look at the Kennedy family through the eyes of the new First Children exhibit at the JFK Library and Museum. Then, Bowen chats with the directors of a new PBS documentary, Riveted: The History of Jeans.
While first lady Jaqueline Kennedy wanted her children, John Jr. and Caroline, to live normal lives, the American public had other plans. The John F. Kennedy Library and Museum tells the story of First Children: Caroline and John Jr. in the Kennedy White House using a collection of objects on display for the first time to tell the story of a nation that couldn't get enough of the youthful family inhabiting the White House. The exhibit is on view through Jan. 8, 2023.
Jared then sits down with Michael Bicks and Anna Lee Strachan to discuss their new PBS documentary Riveted: The History of Jeans. Bicks and Strachan tell the story of denim, from its roots in slavery to the civil rights movement and beyond. The documentary premieres on Feb. 7.
