Bob Thompson joined Boston Public Radio on Monday to review the week in television, from a major cable news mishap related to the fighting in Syria, to the next season of "The Kominsky Method."

His best of the week is "Modern Love," an Amazon Prime series based on the titular Sunday New York Times column about romance, second chances and breakups.

"I'm not a big consumer of romantic comedies or things that make a tear go down your cheek while you're watching it ... but they're kind of a new take on this kind of romance in New York [genre]," he said.

The series debuted Friday, with eight dramatized versions of the New York Times' column, featuring a star-studded cast including Anne Hathaway, Tina Fey, Andrew Scott and Dev Patel.

Bob Thompson is a founding director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture and a trustee professor of television and popular culture at Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University.
