Mother Courage and Her Children at Shakespeare & Company in Lenox through August 25th
“I won’t let you spoil my war for me. Destroys the weak, does it? Well, what does peace do for’em, huh? War feeds its people better.” Mother Courage and Her Children is set against the backdrop of the Thirty Years War and follows the fate of Mother Courage, an artful canteen woman played by Olympia Dukakis, intent on keeping her business and family alive amid the destruction of war.
Convergence: Boston Sculptors Gallery Exhibits at the Christian Science Plaza through October 31st
This exhibit marks the twentieth anniversary of this arts working group striving to move the city of Boston forward in the realm of public art. As sculptors, they push materials to their outer limit, on the outside chance that the sculpture will come alive and catch fire.
The Mount , Edith Wharton’s home in Lenox, Massachusetts
The Mount is both an historic site and a center for culture inspired by the passions and achievements of Edith Wharton. Designed and built by Edith Wharton in 1902, the house embodies the principles outlined in her influential book, The Decoration of Houses (1897). In the summer of 2010, The Mount launched Berkshire WordFest, a vibrant gathering of writers and readers in one of the most beautiful settings in the Berkshires.
