On this week's Living Lab, I talked with Whitney Bernstein and Michael MacMahon, an oceanography graduate student and a local artist who've teamed up to produce an art exhibit based on ocean science.

Actually, they're not the ones creating the art; they're shepherding eight scientist-artist pairs through a collaborative process. The end goal is abstract or conceptual artwork in a variety of media — sculpture, painting, video — that in some way reflects or incorporates one scientist's research. The project is called Synergy: An Experiment in Communicating Science Through Art.

You can find out more about the artists and scientists involved in the project on the Synergy website and listen to our conversation about what it means to communicate science through art.

The Museum of Science in Boston has expressed in interest in hosting the Synergy exhibit, so be on the lookout for that early in 2013.
