PBS and WGBH present The Great American Read, a journey through America that introduces our list of the 100 best-loved books and explores the many ways in which these novels affect, reflect and connect us all. Join WGBH via Facebook Live throughout the summer from our Boston Public Library studio for lively discussions on a variety of reading topics.
In our second installment in this discussion series, we ask how romance novels and the literary expression of love have changed over the last 200 years. Sue Weaver Schopf, Distinguished Service Lecturer and Retired Associate Dean at the Harvard University Extension School, and Jackie Horne, President of the New England Chapter of Romance Writers of America, join host Callie Crossley, of WGBH's "Under the Radar with Callie Crossley," in examining how modern romance novels like Americanah, The Notebook and Twilight, compare to classic romance novels like Jane Eyre, Pride and Prejudice, and Wuthering Heights.
