For over 30 years, KISS 108’s Matt Siegel has been a fixture on Boston’s radio dial, and his "Matty in the Morning" has been the top-rated morning show for most of those years.

That success was recognized in September 2012 when Siegel was inducted into the Massachusetts Broadcasters Hall of Fame. He accepted the award with the same sense of humor and humility that listeners know well, joking that the "whole crew of KISS" attended only "for the free lunch". Humor aside, Siegel thanked his co-workers and credited them with being "the best radio staff anywhere."

In anticipation of Siegel's Oct. 1 appearance on Greater Boston's One Guest, a WGBH camera caught up with Siegel and his "Matty in the Morning" crew earlier in the week and taped this  web-only excerpt:

Siegel's sidekick of 21 years, Billy Costa, told us that the two have an unusual on-air chemistry. With a wry smile, he said, "We really enjoy each other’s misery. And I know that sounds almost evil, but it makes us laugh.” Costa added that despite Siegel's self-loathing shtick, listeners shouldn't misinterpret that when it comes to the audience: "The reality is that I've never met anyone more dedicated to the actual show. He takes the show extremely seriously."

And of course, Siegel couldn’t resist razzing our camera. While munching on a bagel, he growled, "Stop shooting me. I don't like being on television, OK? It makes me nervous."
