WGBH Radio Enters the Virtual World

Second Life avatar
WGBH Radio is now part of Second Life®, an online, 3-D virtual world imagined and created by its Residents. On Brightonia, WGBH Radio's virtual island home, Residents can play a grand piano, swim, sail, and relax by a campfire — all while listening to audio streams of WGBH radio broadcasts.

LIVE Concert Event in Second Life®

second life avatarBrightonia is also home to the virtual Fraser Performance Studio, a detailed digital replica of WGBH Radio's real-world Fraser Performance Studio. On Tuesday, May 27, pianist Jeremy Denk's performed in the real-world Fraser Performance Studio and was simultaneously broadcasted in our virtual one.

The concert was free to Second Life® audiences, who could not only hear the live performance, but also watch avatars representing Denk and WGBH classical host Cathy Fuller. Following the performance, Denk hosted a question-and-answer session with the audience in Second Life®.
