Boston Duck Tours is responding to the tour boat accident in Missouri on July 19 that left more than a dozen people dead and several still missing. Boston Duck Tours operates amphibious vehicles like the one involved in the incident.

While the investigation in Missouri is just beginning, stormy conditions with winds over 60 miles per hour appeared to play a role the sinking.

Bob Schwartz, a spokesman for Boston Duck Tours, said in an email that the company works closely with the U.S Coast Guard to monitor weather conditions in the Charles River, where they operate. The company doesn’t allow their boats in the water with any lightning or high winds in the area and always has life vests on board, he added.

Boston Duck Tours had its own deadly incident on land in 2016 — a woman was killed when a tour boat struck the scooter she was riding. That incident led to new safety regulations.
