From the Top
Hosted by pianist Christopher O’Riley, each one-hour broadcast presents five high-caliber performances along with interviews, sketches, and games, revealing the heart and soul behind young classical musicians. Now in its 10th year on air, From the Top is taped before audiences in concert halls from Boston to Honolulu.
Monday, Nov. 9, 1pm on WGBH 89.7
Classical Music with Brian McCreath | Vladimir & Vovka Ashkenazy
A new recording has been released of pianists Vladimir Ashkenazy (shown) and his son Vovka playing duets by Debussy and Ravel, including the orchestral masterpiece Jeux, in a new transcription by pianist Jean-Efflam Bavouzet that, with orchestral colors stripped away, offers a clearer window into Debussy's trademark harmonic language.
Tuesday, Nov. 10, 1pm on WGBH 89.7
Classical Music with Brian McCreath | Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique
Recorded in concert last May in Münster, Germany, the West German Radio Symphony Orchestra performs Part 2 of Berlioz's romantic Symphonie Fantastique with the young Latvian conductor Andris Nelsons (shown).
Wednesday, Nov. 11, 1pm on WGBH 89.7
Classical Music with Brian McCreath | Orchestra of St. Luke's
On Veterans Day, hear the Orchestra of St. Luke's under Robert Craft (shown) play the Suite from Stravinksy's L'histoire du soldat, a Faustian story that embodies much of the post-World War I artistic sensibility.
