Mezzo-soprano Anne Sofie von Otter (shown) sings the role of Dido in "The Trojans at Carthage," Part 2 of Berlioz's epic opera Les troyens (The Trojans). James Levine conducts the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Tanglewood Festival Chorus in a LIVE broadcast from the Koussevitzky Music Shed at Tanglewood, in Lenox, Mass. Conductor Gustavo Dudamel, whose meteoric rise and passionate style have been compared to the young Leonard Bernstein's, conducts the Simón Bolívar Youth Orchestra of Venezuela in a performance of Bernstein's Symphonic Dances from West Side Story, recorded by WGBH in a concert presented by the Celebrity Series of Boston, the New England Conservatory, and the Boston Symphony Orchestra at Symphony Hall in Boston in November 2007.

Composer Michael GandolfiClassical Weekend
Boston composer Michael Gandolfi's earliest musical enthusiasms were jazz and rock improvisation, which he later transformed into a vibrant musical language for concert music. The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra under music director Robert Spano performs the "Garden of the Senses" Suite, taken from Gandolfi's The Garden of Cosmic Speculation, a work inspired by the otherworldly garden in Scotland of the same name designed by architect Charles Jencks.

This LIVE broadcast from the Koussevitzky Music Shed at Tanglewood, in Lenox, Mass., also includes Haydn's Symphony No. 104, the "London," and Schubert's Symphony No. 4, the "Tragic."
