About Boston Media Productions
WGBH's Boston Media Productions brings local content to WGBH 2 and 44, WGBH
digital channels, PBS, and the Web.
The department produces three ongoing, studio-based series: Basic Black, La Plaza,
and Greater Boston. Eye on Education is on ongoing examination of education reform
that uses content from the existing series and community partners. Boston Media
Productions also initiates new projects and specials for local and national
broadcast.
About the Ongoing Series
Basic Black
Boston's longest running weekly television program devoted to African American themes.
Since 1968 Basic Black (formerly Say Brother) has reflected on the concerns and culture
of African AMericans through short-form documentaries, performances, and one-on-one
conversations. Basic Black captures the stories and events that illuminate the African
American experience in the Boston area and beyond.
La Plaza
In Latin American countries, the plaza is the physical and cultural center of town, a
meeting place for people, ideas, and activities. For 25 years, WGBH's weekly program on
the culture and concerns of Latinos has created such ameeting place on television. One
of thenation's longest-running TV series devoted to LAtino themes, La Plaza offers
viewers a vista into the Latino community.
Greater Boston
WGBH's nightly local program examines the region's top news and newsmakers. Hosted
by Emily Rooney, Greater Boston combines feature reports and in-studio interviews, pr
oviding a fresh approach to and in-depth analysis of timely news and public affairs iss
ues of local interest.
Eye on Education
WGBH's award-winning series uses television, radio, print, and the Web, to look at how education refrom impacts the lives of students; parents, teachers, and administrators in the Boston area.
